York Cathedral to launch new attraction
POSTED 23 May 2013 . BY Tom Anstey
A new attraction at York Minster, chronicling the last 2,000 years of history dating back to 71AD is set to open to the public this Saturday.

"Revealing York Minster" will be the largest attraction ever to open inside a Cathedral in the UK and is set in the Undercroft - a space built during emergency excavations during the 1970s.

The new exhibition is looking to transform the visitor experience and to develop new audiences but only predict a five per cent increase in visitors.

The exhibit includes a Viking section, featuring the 1,000-year old Horn of Ulf. A present day section incorporates footage of "a day in the life of Minster," as well as dedicated zones for each time period.

The exhibit is part of the larger "York Minster Revealed Project", which is looking to transform the York Minster with new exhibits, collections and general restoration work.

The five-year project comes at a cost of £20m, of which £10.5m has been granted by the National Lottery Heritage fund, with the remainder being raised by York Minster itself.
