Work on a Peter Pan-themed park in Kirriemuir in Angus, Scotland is to begin.
The first phase of the project, approved by Angus Council in May, is to cost £340,000 and will include the installation of a new play area, new picnic tables and seating, road repair works and new signage.
The project is being funded by grants from Rural Tayside LEADER (£60,000) and Angus Environmental Trust (£30,000); a contribution of £20,000 through the Roads capital budget; £115,000 from the 2009/2010 Recreation Renewal and Repairs Fund; and a further contribution of £115,000 from the 2010/2011 Recreation Renewal and Repairs Fund.
The author of Peter Pan, JM Barrie, was born in Kirriemuir 150 years ago.
Councillor Jim Millar, convener of Neighbourhood Services said: "We are pleased that this project is moving forward in the year of the celebrations to mark the 150th anniversary of JM Barrie's birth. These enhancements will be of benefit to both local people and visitors to Angus for many years to come."
