Trentham Gardens in Stoke-on-Trent, UK, has opened a 60-acre Monkey Forest attraction as part of its ongoing £100m redevelopment programme.
The new area, which houses around 140 Barbary Macaques, is the first of its kind in the UK and opened on 19 July.
The attraction has also recently launched Barefuss-Park, which offers visitors a wellbeing walk where they can travel barefoot over and through bark, pine cones, gravel, sand, grass and mud. A further 10 new, way-marked Woodland Walks will now also be free for visitors to experience.
Meanwhile, work has begun on a 120-bedroom hotel which will open at the complex in 2006 while other developments include an extreme sport activity centre, equestrian centre and a deluxe hotel and spa complex to match the original Trentham Hall designs, which is due to open in 2008.
The 750-acre estate is one of England’s largest formal gardens. Details: www.trenthamleisure.co.uk
