Plans have been announced to develop a £2.5m William Wallace Heritage Centre in Lanark, Scotland.
The year 2005 will mark the 700th anniversary of the execution of the Scottish national hero, and the centre’s first phase include bringing Wallace’s coffin to Lanark for burial in a specially prepared mausoleum.
Funding for the centre will come from the Lanark-based William Wallace Heritage Trust, the South Lanarkshire Council, the New Lanark World Heritage Site, Lanark Business Group and Historic Scotland.
The burial will be the culmination of a month of celebrations, which will begin on 20 August 2005 with a medieval fair and a battle re-enactment.
