Indigenous lava rock and waterfalls to landscape hillside Balinese resort

WOW Design Studio, Belt Collins International landscape architects and Hirsch Bedner Associates interior designers have been engaged to create a lavish hillside resort on the southern coast of Bali.

The consultants will be designing the public spaces, exteriors and accommodations for the New World Grand Bali Resort, scheduled to open in 2017.

Indonesian company PT. Mugie Bali Indah – which owns the resort – has appointed New World Hotels & Resorts, a Rosewood Hotel Group brand, to manage the property, extending the brand’s presence across Asia.

Natural lava rock of the three volcanoes of the island will be among the building materials used. The resort’s landscape will feature forest flora with meandering pathways, and waterfalls, pools and streams will be used as a backdrop throughout.

Set on 10.8 hectares, the luxury resort will be part of the Pecatu Indah Resort development located on the southern Bukit Peninsula. The resort also features a spa, waterpark, restaurants and golf course.

The main swimming pool has a 1,580sq m (17,000sq ft) viewing deck overlooking the Bali Strait and coastline, and ‘dancing’ fountain concept. An adjacent water park will offer a ‘Lazy River,’ sandy beach, kids pool, water slides, forest-themed restaurant and stage performances.

The resort will also feature four restaurants and a rooftop destination lounge. Meeting space will include a ballroom of 1,100sq m (11,840sq ft) and four meeting rooms, as well as a wedding chapel.

Fifteen minutes’ drive from cliff-top Uluwatu Temple and 30 minutes’ drive from Ngurah Rai Badung International Airport, the resort will be built following the site’s natural slope, which is 156m (511ft) above sea level at its highest point.

Of the 328 guest rooms, the suites and grand suites will have individual decks and plunge pools. Selected guest rooms, all suites and 85 one to four-bedroom villa residences will be available for purchase. Those in residences will have access to an exclusive club and pool. Each accommodation will have an ocean view.

Taking inspiration from a Balinese mountaintop retreat, tiered gardens will step down in the manner of Bali’s rice paddy terraces.
