The Void brings next-level virtual reality experiences to Utah and Dubai
POSTED 11 Apr 2017 . BY Tom Anstey
The VOID will eventually offer a number of VR experiences, initially debuting with its Ghostbusters venture
Multi-player virtual reality startup The Void has opened its doors for the first time in two new locations, with the immersive experience now available in Utah and Dubai.

Opened on 7 April in Lindon, Utah, the new venture brings its Ghostbusters experience first seen at Madame Tussauds in New York last year.

The launch represents the company’s first VEC (Void Entertainment Centre) in the US, and the second international opening of The Void. Last month the first attraction debuted in Dubai Marina’s ‘The Beach’ shopping area. That VEC will be available until the end of May.

Using Rapture hardware – including a head-mounted device, a “backtop” backpack that contains a computer, a 22-point haptic feedback vest, and a shooting device – and Leap Motion’s hand-tracking technology, both locations also use real-life props and effects so that when guests touch an object, they get a corresponding tactile sensation.

The experience currently lasts around 15 minutes, though Void co-founder James Jensen has previously expressed the possibility of creating further stages, extending customer time in the attraction.

The two new centres are just the start for the Void, with future plans for the company including expansion throughout the US in strategic locations, while also developing more games for visitors to engage in. Further international locations are also being considered.
