POSTED 12 Nov 2009 . BY Martin Nash
Aldar Properties has announced the completion of the external structure of Ferrari World Abu Dhabi.

Located on Abu Dhabi's Yas Island, the new retail, leisure and entertainment destination and host venue for the inaugural Formula One Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi will reportedly be the world's largest indoor theme park and the first ever Ferrari theme park when it opens in 2010.

The red roof of the structure is said to be inspired by the classic double curve side profile of the Ferrari GT body, covers a surface area of 200,000sq m (2.1m sq ft) and features the largest Scuderia Ferrari "prancing horse" emblem in the world, measuring 66m (216.5ft) in diameter.

35,000cu tonnes (34,447cu tons) of concrete, 12,370 tonnes (12,174 tons) of steel, 29,000sq m (312,153sq ft) of facade glazing and 165,000sq m (1.7m sq ft) of roof cladding were used to create the park's superstructure which was completed in 14 months. More than 4,500 workers were involved in the project on a daily basis.

A joint venture management construction company owned by Aldar and Besix, a Belgian construction group, is responsible for the management of the project, while UK firm Benoy is the architect and lead consultant.

Ferrari World Abu Dhabi will be operated by Farah Leisure Park Management LLC, a joint venture between Aldar and ProFun Management Group.

The park will host more than 20 attractions, each designed to bring to life a different part of the Ferrari story. This includes the world's fastest rollercoaster, travelling at speeds exceeding 200 kmh (124.3mph) and designed to replicate the sensation of being in a Ferrari F1 car, as well as an aerial voyage over Italy, following a Ferrari.
