Sony Pictures is set to launch an immersive indoor entertainment park at Oakbrook Center in Chicago
The entertainment destination will occupy a 45,000sq ft retail space at the site of a former Sears store
Immersive experiences will be based on hits including Zombieland, Jumanji and Ghostbusters from the studio’s movie, TV and video game franchises
Admission to the centre will be free, with attractions charged separately
Sony Pictures is set to launch an immersive indoor entertainment park at Oakbrook Center in Chicago in December, featuring escape rooms, interactive exhibits, racing simulators, VR attractions, bumper cars and food and drink.

Called Wonderverse, the entertainment destination will occupy a 45,000sq ft retail space at the site of a former Sears store, according to the Chicago Tribune. Immersive experiences will be based on hits including Zombieland, Jumanji and Ghostbusters from the studio’s movie, TV and video game franchises,

“This is an opportunity to kind of step into the screen and go past it, if you will,” said Jeffrey Godsick, head of location-based entertainment at Sony Pictures. “And in some cases, be a Ghostbuster.”

The Chicago Tribune reports that, “The Ghostbusters offering includes a mission to capture ghosts while armed with realistic-looking proton packs — cross the streams at your own risk. There is also a simulated Ectomobile hovercraft ride.

“Zombieland attractions include a Pacific Playland arcade and bumper cars, where contact turns each player into an undead driver. Jumanji will be a virtual reality experience to find and replace the Jaguar’s jeweled eye, the focus of the rebooted 2017 movie.”

Wonderverse is set for a soft opening in December, with the grand opening planned for January. Admission to the centre will be free, with attractions charged separately.
