A US$2.9m Smurf-based theme park is being planned for Chengdu, China.
The owner of the Smurf brand, IMPS, and Chengdu Teda Sino-Europe Construction are behind the project, which is expected to open in three to five years.
Chengdu is an area famous for its pandas but, according to the DTZ Asia Property Market Update, the park is part of wider tourism plans for the region.
The Smurfs are the creation of Belgian cartoonist Pierre Culliford (under the nom de plume 'Peyo') and first emerged in 1958. They began as comic strips before the Saturday morning TV series began in 1981.
Recently, they have seen somewhat of a resurgence, with a movie planned for release next year starring pop star Katy Perry.
