A small fire at a restaurant at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee on 10 October has prompted the amusement park to stop the use of pyrotechnics in performances over the next few weeks, reports the
Chicago Sunday Times.
The fire happened about 8pm during a performance of the Manny B Monster Show during a private event at Great America.
A Six Flags spokesperson explained that, at some point during the show, the band used flash powder, which ignited cloth decorations hanging from above the stage.
A band member put out the blaze, using a fire extinguisher. No one was hurt, no property was damaged and the restaurant was not evacuated.
Nevertheless, “that show will not use any pyrotechnics for the rest of the season,” Storey said.
Nearly 100 people died in a Rhode Island nightclub last February after a pyrotechnic display started a fire.
