The Pacific Asia Travel Association has decribed the earthquake which hit Nias Island and nearby areas in north west Sumatra on 28 March as a “cruel blow” and urged travellers to continue to support destinations by not changing their travel plans.
“This is a cruel blow to people who have suffered enough, just as they were rebuilding their communities after the 26 December tsunami,” said PATA president Peter de Jong.
“It is imperative that travellers continue with their travel plans and support destinations in south east Asia. The money they spend and the hearts they touch mean a lot for people who are currently rebuilding their lives.”
