Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council (SABC) has submitted a revised planning application for Theatre Severn – formerly known as the New Entertainment Venue.
Ian Kilby, head of conservation and design at SABC, said: “We have been working with the project team to improve the design of the new theatre, both operationally and aesthetically.
“The design has been amended to reduce the complexity of materials employed. Furthermore, the theatre’s public spaces will be more open, with more emphasis being placed on the entrances. A greater level of transparency will also be achieved by removing the louvres from the foyer spaces, opening up views to the river.”
The 70,000sq ft (6,500sq m) project will comprise a 650-seat concert auditorium, a studio to host further performances and live music as well as two café bars.
Willmott Dixon Construction will develop the venue alongside architect Austin Smith Lord. Details: www.shrewsbury.gov.uk
