ProFun to purchase German Space Center attraction
POSTED 8 Nov 2002 . BY
Mark Germyn, president of ProFun Management Group, Inc, has announced a letter of intent to purchase the operating company of the Space Center attraction at the forthcoming Space Park Bremen in Germany. ProFun's new involvement with the project was revealed at a joint press conference involving the city-state of Bremen and Dresdner Bank, which is providing financing.

Around 13 million local residents and tourists each year are expected to visit the futuristic Space Park Bremen complex, costing over 500m euros, which is located in Bremen on the banks of the Weser River. The Space Center component will deliver entertainment within a 22,000sq m indoor theme park, which is expected to host 1.5 million visitors annually. It will feature eight major attractions, a 450-seat bistro and large merchandise facilities. The opening date is yet to be announced.

The attractions will include a 4D-action theatre, a simulator ride, an IMAX(r) theatre, a Space Shot vertical ride, 'the world's first extrasensory rollercoaster', and several other unique rides, according to advance publicity for the project.

In addition to the Space Center theme park, visitors will find further 'extraterrestrial' experiences in the 26-hectare grounds. Space Park Bremen is to feature a galactic-themed shopping centre with 120 retail outlets, a movie complex with 10 theatres, more than three dozen restaurants, cafés, pubs and bistros, a casino, as well as an area for concerts and large events. A landmark feature is the 1:1 scale replica of the Ariane 4 launch rocket, standing almost 60 metres high, which was erected this summer.

ProFun Europe GmbH, the European subsidiary of ProFun Management Group, has signed the letter of intent and is actively exploring other leisure management and operating opportunities throughout Europe. ProFun Europe has been preparing to operate the Space Center under a management contract for the past year, and will now become both owner and operator of the theme park.

Based in Tustin, California, USA, ProFun Management Group was launched three years ago by the founders of Management Resources, a leisure industry consulting company.
