Luxury hotel group Aman has announced that its highly anticipated New York property will open in Q2 2021 in the heart of Manhattan.

Aman New York will be housed in the 1921 Crown Building on Fifth Avenue and 57th Street overlooking Central Park, and will include a three-storey, 2,300sq m Aman Spa.

The 26-storey Crown Building – designed by architects Warren and Wetmore, who also designed New York’s Grand Central Station – is one of the finest examples of Beaux-Arts architecture in New York, and was formerly the first home of the Museum of Modern Art.

Architect Jean-Michel Gathy of Denniston, who has worked on several other Aman resorts, is conceptualising the design for the 83-key destination which will also debut 22 urban residences, a first for the Aman brand.

Gathy will celebrate the brand’s philosophy of “creating sanctuaries beyond commonplace notions of luxury” while paying homage to the building’s architecture and history.

A seven-treatment-suite spa will be open to guests, residents and Aman Club members and will be anchored by a dramatic indoor swimming pool surrounded by fire pits and alcoves of double daybeds.

The spa will also include comprehensive private facilities in the form of two Spa Houses, along with a traditional Russian banya, hammam, saunas, ice fountains, sensory showers and steamrooms.

The offering will be completed with hot and cold plunge pools, hair care and nail care services and an outdoor terrace with cabanas, daybeds and fireplaces

“As with all Amans, we’re deeply connected to our community, and Aman New York will be no exception,” said Vladislav Doronin, Aman chair and CEO.

“We look forward to absorbing the vibrant energy that is New York and infusing it with our own unique formula, resulting in an enriching and lively guest experience that will redefine hospitality.”

A dramatic 10th floor double-height Sky Lobby will feature multi-layers of textured ceiling panels in muted tones that hint at Aman’s Asian roots, interpreted for an urban environment.

Each of the 83 guest rooms will have a functioning fireplace and a subtle design narrative will include nuanced hues and lighting designed to cocoon guests.

A 10th-floor wraparound garden terrace will include a bar with panoramic views of Central Park and a cigar bar. The hotel will also include a piano bar, two restaurants, a wine library and a subterranean jazz club.
