A 196ft (59.7m)-high wheel attraction in Nottingham has been forced to change its name after Merlin Entertainments claimed that it was infringing on the rights to the London Eye brand.
Formerly known as the Nottingham Eye, the 40-capsule observation wheel has now been rebranded as the Wheel of Nottingham after Merlin said that its name implied a link with the London attraction.
In a statement, the company said: "The iconic London Eye observation is the UK's top paid for visitor attraction, and the trademark 'Eye' is recognised around the world.
"Merlin Entertainments has invested heavily in establishing the London Eye brand globally, and as such will take all necessary steps to protect it from unauthorised use by any other company seeking to gain commercial benefit, or imply any link with our brand."
The Wheel of Nottingham is located at Old Market Square, and on clear days, offers views of the surrounding area as far away as East Midlands Airport, around 15 miles (24km) away.
