The Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) is almost halfway to reaching its target of accrediting 800 clubs to its Swim 21 scheme by 2009.
The national governing body has endorsed 355 clubs since the initiation of the scheme in 2002, which is recognised by Sport England and provides Clubmark status.
Accreditation is awarded to clubs fulfilling good teaching, skill development, competitive development and performance, as well as for demonstrating a commitment to safe, effective and quality services to members.
This month, seven new clubs gained accreditation in north east England. North east regional director Lara Lill said: “Swim 21 accreditation has been a crucial part of the development work we have undertaken in the region and emphasis has been placed on Swim 21 networks and clubs working together as a whole.
“The scheme is gaining more support from local authorities and county sports partnerships, as they can see how the swimmer pathway provides maximum opportunities for each individual and shows seamless progression.”
