Newquay Zoo has added a number of new enclosure developments to its existing facilities.
The flagship development is the rainforest exhibit in the Tropical House.
A canopy has been erected, from where birds, bats, sloths and monkeys can be observed, while the ground-level pools have been filled with tropical fish.
Throughout the day, a number of rainstorms will fall on the complex, creating an authentic rainforest environment indoors.
Stewart Muir, assistant director, said: “The animals have taken several weeks of disruption and building work in their stride. The birds watched with interest as a jungle temple took shape around them.”
“The finished exhibit is a credit to the enormous team effort of the keepers,” he said.
The zoo will be open every day throughout the summer – between 1 April and 1 November – from 9.30am to 6pm.
To celebrate the new developments, the zoo will be offering a special £1 entry for one day, on 27 March. Details: www.newquayzoo.co.uk
