Merlin unveils two midway attractions in San Francisco
POSTED 27 Jun 2014 . BY Alice Davis

Famed for its vibrant street life, hippy culture, cable cars and the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco can put another pair of feathers in its tourism cap. The California city is now home to a Madame Tussauds and a Dungeon, two proven Merlin Entertainments attractions which opened today at Fisherman’s Wharf.

Madame Tussauds San Francisco is Merlin’s 17th edition of the waxwork museum, which features a number of local heroes such as Harvey Milk and Mark Zuckerberg, alongside global celebrities and historic figures. San Francisco Dungeon marks the first time Merlin has brought the attraction outside Europe, where the horrible and humorous historical theatrics have been adapted for cities like London, Amsterdam and Berlin. In San Francisco, visitors can expect a Dungeons-style recounting of Bay Area history, including stories of Sutter’s Creek — which in 1848 triggered the California Gold Rush — and the notorious Alcatraz prison.

“We are thrilled to bring Madame Tussauds and the San Francisco Dungeon to the welcoming community of Fisherman’s Wharf,” said Merlin divisional director James Burleigh, who highlighted the interactive nature of both experiences. “We strive to bring an immersive experience for every visitor by having them be part of the attraction. We want to create a uniquely memorable experience.”
