Merlin Entertainments has completed a £12.5m upgrade programme on the capsules of its London Eye attraction in London, UK.
The work included removing the capsules - one at a time - and transporting them down the river Thames to a location in Essex, where each was given a makeover and upgrade. Completion was scheduled to coincide with the start of summer 2012.
As a direct result of the project, which took three years to complete, the EDF Energy London Eye's energy consumption has been reduced by 30 per cent.
Each capsule has also been installed with interactive touch-screen guides in order to provide a more interactive way to take in the capital's most iconic sights.
