UK lighthouse operator, Trinity House, has produced a new visitors map, showing the location of its 72 lighthouses around the coastline of England and Wales.
The guide, Putting Our Lighthouses on the Map, introduces readers to the history of the lighthouse service and details the history of lighthouse keepers who have manned the beacons over the years.
A spokesperson from Trinity House said: “It is tourism which holds the key to the future upkeep of many of these historic properties around the coastline today.
“The new leaflet gives a flavour of what visitors to Britain’s seaside will find if they go in search of the nearest lighthouse.”
The publication of the map has been timed to coincide with the launch of the SeaBritain campaign, ahead of the 2005 Year of the Sea campaign.
Trinity House was granted a royal charter in 1514 and offers self-catering accommodation in eight lighthouses.
