English Heritage’s Helmsely Castle in North Yorkshire is to have a new visitor centre, displays and educational facilities in its west range in a scheme to raise its profile.
PLB Projects, a North Yorkshire-based heritage and tourism consultancy has been appointed to design and implement the development and plans to “put the people back in Helmsley Castle through redisplay of many interesting archaeological finds from the site.”
The £711,000 cost of the projects is being funded by English Heritage with grants from the European Regional Development Fund and Yorkshire Forward.
The new-look visitor experience, launched on 12 September, is expected to open at Easter, 2004. Details: www.plbltd.com
