Image: The project offers hands-on skills trainingThe Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has awarded a grant worth £302,900 towards a three-year project that will train young people in heritage conservation skills in North East England.
Heritage Skills in Education (HSed) is run by the North of England Civic Trust through the Heritage Skills Initiative and will work in partnership with schools, colleges and universities.
The project will engage and train young people in specialist restoration skills, while creating links between education professionals, skilled craftspeople and heritage sector workers.
HSed will launch on 22 June and will boast three learning programmes to cater for schools, colleges and universities - each of which focus on different elements of built heritage.
Young people will have the chance to develop skills such as archival research, archaeological investigation and surveying, as well as benefiting from traditional conservation workshops.
Ivor Crowther, head of the HLF in the North East, said: "HLF's funding will offer the chance for people to get hands-on, practical experience and training."
