A new project designed to open up North East England's railway history at the Heritage Centre, Bellingham, has received Lottery funding.
The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has confirmed a grant worth £173,600 to help support the proposals, which will see two Mark 1 railway carriages restored.
Located in the station yard, the carriages will become home to a learning and exhibition space and visitor facilities to enhance the attraction's appeal.
Ivor Crowther, head of the HLF in the North East, said: "This project, especially the education programme, means its fascinating collections will be available for more people to appreciate and learn about."
