The Club Med Columbus Isle resort is preparing to reveal the first and only L’Occitane spa in the Bahamas this November as part of an US$8m (€6m, £4.9m) investment in the resort.

The newly-refurbished 36 deluxe rooms and 180 Club Med bedrooms on the island – which was the first island Christopher Columbus visited after discovering the new world in 1492 – will now have access to a 13,000sq ft (1,208sq m) Club Med Spa by L’Occitane.

The six-treatment room spa will include a manicure and pedicure area, hair salon, relaxation lounge and a L’Occitane boutique. Signature treatments at the spa will comprise therapies using ingredients such as local coconut to brighten, hydrate and soften skin. There will also be a mini menu for juniors and teens from 11-17 years old.

Guests can incorporate two, three and four-day Spa Escape programmes with the resort’s all-inclusive fitness school, tennis classes and water activities. The Columbus Isle is known for its beautiful coral reef and with a visibility of 80-150ft (24-46m), the resort is popular with divers.

The investment also includes the redesign of the resort’s main pool deck, a brand new kitesurfing school and a new culinary experience at a restaurant called Christopher’s. The resort in the Bahamas has three bars and two dining venues.
