English Heritage has announced that it is to launch a new visitor experience at Dover Castle, Kent, that will re-create the dramatic events surrounding the 1940 evacuation of Dunkirk.
Opening on 10 June, Operation Dynamo: Rescue from Dunkirk will use original news-reel footage, recordings and two year's worth of research to tell the story of the event.
Dover Castle's army operations rooms will appear as they did throughout the Second World War, while two previously unseen rooms will open to the public for the first time.
The attraction will also highlight the role of Vice-Admiral Bertram Home Ramsay, who was brought out of retirement in 1939 to oversee the protection of the Dover Straits during the conflict.
