Drayton Manor chuffs away with new Thomas Land ride
POSTED 16 Jan 2017 . BY Tom Anstey
The addition follows on from a £2.5m expansion of Thomas Land in 2016
Drayton Manor theme is increasing investment into its popular Thomas Land, ploughing £250,000 (US$304,000, €286,000) into a new ride themed on popular character James.

Created by Zamperla, James and the Red Balloon is a modification of the ride manufacturer’s Samba Balloon ride, heavily themed to fit into the Thomas & Friends-themed land.

The children’s ride, which has a capacity for up to 500 riders an hour, will take visitors 1.5 metres in the air, where they will be able to see the rest of Thomas Land as they ride the balloon.

Both local to Tamworth, D.F Benistons have been hired to complete ground works on the ride and DJ Pope Creative will design and build props and scenery.

Thomas Land also recently underwent a £2.5m (US$3.9m, €3.4m) expansion, with three new rides and a new Sodor Airport terminal.

“This was an exciting project involving local specialists and international partners that we hope will delight visitors from the UK and further afield. We cannot thank our team and valued partners enough for their hard work and determination.

“This is the next exciting step in the progression of Thomas Land and we look forward to seeing the joy on our visitors’ faces as they take to the skies in James and his Red Balloon.”
