Disney offers new look at upcoming Star Wars lands
POSTED 15 Jul 2016 . BY Tom Anstey
The artist's impression gives a glimpse at what the 14 acre attraction will look like
Disney has revealed a new artist's impression for its Star Wars lands being built at its theme parks in Florida and California.

The largest land expansion in Disney’s history, the 56,655sq m (609,840sq ft) Star Wars Land will feature a virtual reality Millennium Falcon ride allowing guests to “take the controls of one of the most recognisable ships in the galaxy." It also includes the iconic cantina first seen in Star Wars: Episode IV and a new ride themed to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, putting the visitor in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.

Coming to Florida’s Hollywood Studios and at Disneyland in California, work on the two expansions started in April, though an opening date is yet to be announced.

“Nestled between towering spires of rock, this thriving port contains a seemingly familiar architecture of markets, landing zones and buildings,” said a Disney statement.

“Look closely and you may find hints of some of the thrilling experiences that are coming – like the Millennium Falcon peeking out of one of the cargo bays, marking the location where guests will get the opportunity to pilot the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy.”

Star Wars has proved a phenomenal success for Disney, with its extraordinary success at the box office, driving Disney to be named the world’s most powerful brand earlier this year, taking the crown from Lego.

In addition to acquiring the Star Wars brand, Disney has secured the likes of Marvel Entertainment, The Muppets, Pixar and ESPN, solidifying its position as the world’s most powerful entertainment entity.
