Poole attraction, Compton Acres, has worked with the Bournemouth Society for the Visually Impaired for its latest feature, a Sensory Sculpture Garden. Featuring a combination of African sculptures designed and carved by the Shona people of Zimbabwe, the garden is unique in Europe. The sculptures feature a variety of human and animal subjects in a selection of stones, including opal, serpentine and springstone. Trees, shrubs and flowers chosen for their scent or tactile qualities have also been planted. Marketing manager, Jane Hullcoop, says: Compton Acres has always had a strong reputation for its statues and sculpture. This new garden takes that reputation on a step further by featuring works of art designed specifically to be touched.
