ClassPass will begin offering its partners the opportunity to live-stream classes through its app and website.

The fitness subscription platform will make the service available immediately and will keep it open at least until 1 June 2020.

ClassPass hopes to use its database of more than one million subscribers to help studios and their employees create some much-needed revenue during the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) lockdown. All proceeds will go directly to the studios and fitness instructors.

A number of studios have already signed up to offer live-streamed classes – including East of Eden, Paola's BodyBarre, DAN'S and Exhale Pilates.

ClassPass has also made its existing library of more than 2,000 pre-recorded video and audio workouts free of charge and surfaced the digital workouts on the homepage of the app and website.

“The global Coronavirus pandemic has presented a major challenge for the health and wellness industry," said ClassPass CEO Fritz Lanman.

"Almost 90 per cent of our 30,000 gym, studio and wellness partners across 30 countries have indefinitely closed their physical locations.

"We need to act now to protect the businesses that keep our populations healthy and resilient."

ClassPass will offer training and resources in order to educate fitness professionals and studios who are interested in hosting online classes for the first time. ClassPass will also aid studio owners in understanding available financial resources and help fitness businesses to apply for short term loans and government assistance.

In addition to the live-streaming offer, ClassPass has created a Partner Relief Fund, giving people an easy way to donate money to their favourite studios directly through the app.

ClassPass will match all studio contributions up to US$1m.
