Candidates announced for ukactive Membership Council

David Stalker will chair the new Membership Council
ukactive has today (26 May) confirmed the shortlist of candidates vying for nine seats on its new Membership Council.

The formation of a new Membership Council is part of the reforms borne out of a 12-month consultation with ukactive members and partners designed to ensure a governance structure that is fit for purpose and in line with best practice recommended by key agencies such as Sport England.

The Membership Council, to be chaired by outgoing ukactive CEO David Stalker, will be the formal voice of the membership base in ukactive governance, reporting to the board and taking on topical sector challenges, such as the ongoing issues relating to skills and workforce development.

Stalker, who will also sit on the ukactive Board of Directors, said: “Whatever the results of the upcoming elections, based on the quality of the applications we have received I am very confident that we will be assembling an innovative and forward-thinking Membership Council, which will be able to lead the sector forward for years to come, taking advantage of the many opportunities for the sector”.

Voting commences today and concludes on Friday 12 June. ukactive members can vote for their preferred representatives via the ukactive website by clicking here.

There are nine seats on the Membership Council with ukactive members given one vote per member site within their assigned seat. The seats cover: Private Fitness Multi Site, Private Fitness Independent, Local Authority Leisure Trust, Local Authority Management Contractor, Local Authority, Educational Facility, Outdoor Activity Provider, Children’s Activity Provider and Wider Activity Provider.

The candidates are as follows:

Seat 1: Private Multi Fitness Site

• Dave Courteen, CEO, Mosaic Spa and Health Clubs

• Richard J Hubbard, MD, Gymophobics Ltd

• Paul Ramsay, operations director, 3d Leisure

• John Treharne, CEO, The Gym Group

Seat 2: Private Fitness Independent

• Hilary Gilbert, creative director, BoomCycle / Robert Rowland, CEO, BoomCycle

• Max Sharp, managing director, ESPH

Seat 3: Leisure Trust

• Chris Dickson, health and fitness development manager, Xcite West Lothian Leisure Ltd

• Phil Rumbelow, chief executive, Jubilee Hall Trust

Seat 4: Local Authority Leisure Management Contractor

• Ben Beevers, associate director, Everyone Active

• Neil King, managing director, 1Life

Seat 5: Local Authority

• Debbie Kaye, head of communities, arts & recreation, Cambridge City Council

• Diana Radford, head of physical activity, Sheffield City Council

Seat 6: Educational Facility

• Clare Howard, deputy managing director, Association of Colleges

Seat 7: Outdoor Activity Provider

• Andrew Denton, Outdoor Industry Association

• Garry Kerr, head of operations, British Military Fitness

Candidates announced for ukactive Membership Council

David Stalker will chair the new Membership Council
ukactive has today (26 May) confirmed the shortlist of candidates vying for nine seats on its new Membership Council.

The formation of a new Membership Council is part of the reforms borne out of a 12-month consultation with ukactive members and partners designed to ensure a governance structure that is fit for purpose and in line with best practice recommended by key agencies such as Sport England.

The Membership Council, to be chaired by outgoing ukactive CEO David Stalker, will be the formal voice of the membership base in ukactive governance, reporting to the board and taking on topical sector challenges, such as the ongoing issues relating to skills and workforce development.

Stalker, who will also sit on the ukactive Board of Directors, said: “Whatever the results of the upcoming elections, based on the quality of the applications we have received I am very confident that we will be assembling an innovative and forward-thinking Membership Council, which will be able to lead the sector forward for years to come, taking advantage of the many opportunities for the sector”.
