Brut Deluxe creates rainbow-filled infinity maze for Chinese art festival

Design studio Brut Deluxe has unveiled a unique light-filled labyrinth, with the immersive light installation part of the Luneng Sanya Bay Light and Art Festival in Hainan, China.

Created using a formula of triangular geometry, the 2.5 metre-high (8.2ft) acrylic glass maze is coated with a dichroic film – a very accurate colour filter used to selectively pass light of a small range of colors while reflecting other colours. As visitors walk through the maze, light and colour will change, shifting through the entire colour spectrum as they explore. On the other side of the glass are a specifically created pattern of grooves, illuminated by powerful LED rails with subtly shifting colours located in the inferior and superior framework.

Panels on the outer perimeter of the maze are fitted with a mirror film, turning the maze into a psychedelic infinity room made up of overlapping light patterns and constantly changing colours.

Curated and organised by Beijing NTL Culture Communication, the temporary installation made its debut on 10 December and will run until 15 April.
