Bannatyne keeps pace up on club revamp programme
POSTED 28 Jul 2016 . BY Tom Walker
Kevin Easley, general manager at Bannatyne York believes members will take to functional training
Bannatyne Group has completed another health club revamp as part of plans to upgrade its entire UK-based fitness portfolio.

The operator is currently working through a £16m investment programme to update its 66-strong health club estate, with a renewed focus on technology and functional training.

The latest to be kitted out is Bannatyne Health Club in York, which has received a £650,000 facelift in the form of new equipment and exercise spaces.

Improvements include the creation of a new functional training area, featuring an Omnia 8 Rig supplied by Technogym. The Omnia range aims to increase member interaction by allowing up to eight gym-goers to simultaneously swing, balance and hang from the equipment to strengthen core muscles in a fun and engaging way.

Water Rowers, Watt Bikes and SKILLMILL machines have also been installed, while the club has upgraded its tech offering with the installation of Myzone heart rate monitors and the Bannatyne app, which allows members to keep track of their fitness progress, complete challenges on their smart phone and book classes.

In addition to the new equipment, the club’s free weights area has been extended and work will start on upgrading the café later in July.

Kevin Easley, general manager at Bannatyne York, said: “The new gym floor and extended free weights area are the perfect complement to our existing facilities – which include a swimming pool, sauna and group exercise rooms for a whole variety of classes.

“The Omnia 8 Rig will be a big hit with members. Functional training is the way the industry is progressing, with a focus on training movement patterns rather than isolation individual muscle groups when it is used alongside the new results monitoring equipment.”

Bannatyne Group currently operates 66 full service health clubs in the UK, with a total of around 195,000 members.

The group’s other leisure businesses include Bannatyne Hotels, which operates Bannatyne Hotel incorporating Maxine’s Restaurant in Darlington, County Durham, The Bannatyne Spa Hotel in Hastings, Bannatyne’s Charlton House hotel in Shepton Mallet, Somerset and BannatyneHotel in Durham City.
