Application submitted for Mann Island
POSTED 27 Jul 2006 . BY Sarah Todd
A planning application has been submitted to Liverpool City Council by Neptune Developments for a £120m mixed-use scheme at Mann Island in Liverpool's city centre, UK.

The development, situated on the Northwest Regional Development Agency-owned site, would include three black granite buildings and contain more than 13,000sq ft (1,200sq m) of covered public spaces for exhibitions, cafés and restaurants and a further 20,000sq ft (1,850sq m) of public open space.

Designed by Broadway Malyan architects, the scheme would also feature 76,000sq ft (7,060sq m) of leisure and retail space on the ground and first floors of the three buildings.

The three granite properties would comprise two triangular residential constructions arranged in an ‘L’ shape and a linear commercial building and are intended to maintain and frame views of the Three Graces, while their reflective surface is intended to allow the structures to blend into the skyline.

Managing director of Neptune Developments, Steve Parry, said: “We are delighted to have submitted our application and now look forward to moving ahead with the scheme which we believe will be an exciting and valuable addition to Liverpool’s waterfront.”

The planning application follows extensive consultation with English Heritage, Liverpool Vision, LUDCAP and CABE.

The scheme, combined with the new Museum of Liverpool, is expected to create an additional £13.1m in visitor expenditure from 1.25 million visitors per year.

A decision on the application is expected imminently. Details: www.neptunedevelopments.co.uk
