Anantara opening Omani resort perched on a canyon rim
POSTED 11 Mar 2016 . BY Jane Kitchen
Designed to reflect traditional Omani architecture, the resort blends into the surrounding landscape, offering panoramic canyon views
Anantara has plans to open two hotels in Oman this year: the Al Baleed Resort – Salalah by Anantara in the southern province of Dhofar and the Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort in the northeast of Oman.

The Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar is set in the rocky contours of the vast Saiq Plateau on Oman’s fabled Green Mountain, and perched 2,000m (6,562ft) above sea level on the curving rim of a large canyon.

Designed to reflect traditional Omani architecture, the resort blends into the surrounding landscape, offering panoramic canyon views. It will include 82 bedrooms and 33 villas with private swimming pools and personal butler services, as well as an Anantara Spa with Thai and Arabian treatments.

The 1,450sq m (15,608sq ft) spa will include a private hammam with heated marble surface that will offer Bikram Yoga, as well as five treatment rooms, including two couples'. Separate male and female thermal suites will each include a Himalayan salt steamroom, aroma-infused sauna room, experience rain showers, indoor relaxation bed chambers, outdoor relaxation patio with loungers a wet area featuring a heated vitality pool with whirlpool and a health station with nutritious snacks, fresh fruit, infused water and herbal teas.

Kim Milton has been named director of spa and recreation. Signature treatments will include a Rose Rescue Ritual that utilises indigenous rose oil, as well as a Green Mountain Escape that blends hot stone massage with frankincense and olive oil and a Revitalising Pomegranate Journey that uses Arabian massage techniques passed down through generations.

The Anantara Al Baleed Resort – Salalah will be situated between a scenic beach and a freshwater lagoon, with a design inspired by Dhofar’s heritage and the region’s coastal fortresses. It will include 40 bedrooms as well as 88 villas with private pools and butler services.

The resort will also include an Anantara Spa, which will offer hammam rituals and Arabian rituals, as well as an infinity pool, fully-equipped gym and tennis courts.

“The opening of not one but two Anantara Resorts in the Sultanate of Oman in mid-2016 is a huge milestone for the brand and reflects our rapid growth in the region,” said Robert Kunkler, chief operating officer of Minor Hotel Group, the parent company of Anantara.

“Oman is known worldwide for its spectacular natural beauty and heart-felt hospitality and the team at Anantara are passionate about connecting guests to the world’s most exciting locations and people through personal experiences, so it is a natural home for us. Both resorts will be very unique, very luxurious and will offer the very best in hospitality in Al Jabal Al Akhdar and Salalah.”
