Ryanair, the Irish low-cost airliner, has announced it will appeal against a European Commission (EC) decision early next month.
In February, the EC decided that Œ4m (£2.64m) out of a total of Œ15m (£9.9m) paid to Ryanair by Charleroi airport was ‘illegal state aid’.
Ryanair will appeal against the ruling at the European Court of First Instance, a process that could take up to two years to conclude.
Ryanair’s announcement comes just days after it revealed it had secured a new deal with Charleroi.
The new deal is set to leave ticket prices on the 11 routes in and out of Charleroi at the very same level that initially triggered the EC’s investigation. Details: www.ryanair.com
