Pleasure & Leisure, owner of the Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach, is to enter into a joint venture partnership with Henry Boot Developments to build a new, £8m leisure complex with a 10-screen cinema as its centrepiece.
The new development will cover 100,000sq ft (9,290sq m) and be situated adjacent to the 70-ride Pleasure Beach attraction.
Pleasure & Leisure will own the mixed-use complex and operate it as landlord.
Multiplex developer Vue Entertainment has been offered the anchor tenancy of the cinema while there are also plans for a three-star hotel, a bowling alley, restaurants, bars and a drive-through fast food outlet.
Karen Hawes, regional director of Henry Boot, said: “The scheme will assist the regeneration of Great Yarmouth’s seafront by creating an exciting scheme for all the family and will be a year-round destination for the local population and visitors alike.”
Tim Richards, CEO of Vue, said: “This development is in a great location that has the potential to be an excellent site. We look forward to providing the best cinema experience available.”
Subject to planning permission, although outline agreement has already been approved, construction will begin in May 2006 with the facility scheduled to open by Easter 2007. Details: www.pleasure-beach.co.uk
