430m euro leisure complex planned for Dundalk
POSTED 24 Nov 2009 . BY Luke Tuchscherer
An application for a 430m euro (£387.4m) snow complex in Dundalk, Ireland, is to be submitted to Louth County Council.

The Altitude project - proposed by local firm Innovative Leisure Systems and the UK-based Briton Engineering – will include a ski slope and nursery slopes; a 100-bedroom family hostel; a 110,000sq ft indoor concert arena; an 80,000sq ft leisure zone, which includes a cinema and bowling alley; and a 40,000sq ft surf and water leisure dome, as well as restaurants and bars.

Later phases will include additional hotel accommodation and once relevant legislation is in place, an international casino.

Sam Curran, an experienced property developer and one of the two directors of Innovative Leisure Systems, said: “We’ve done very extensive work over the last 30 months to fine-tune what we include in our plans and are completely satisfied that the mix of different elements we propose will prove a compelling attraction, not only to the regional and national market across the island of Ireland but also to overseas visitors.

“While the current economic climate is clearly not ideal, it does present some cost advantages in the construction phase and we foresee considerable economic recovery during the seven-year timescale, which will not rely exclusively on the domestic market.”

Curran also said that the project was not reliant on funding from the Irish banking sector or public funding.

The scheme, which was designed by Leonard Design Architects, is expected to be completed by 2016.
