£20m water park planned for Drayton Manor
POSTED 17 Aug 2005 . BY
Plans for a new £20m waterpark have been unveiled at Drayton Manor theme park in Staffordhire.

The American-style adventure waterpark, to be called Stormalong Bay, will be between six and 10 acres in size and will boast up to 20 water slides, a fun pool, slide tubes, wave pools and gentle river raft canals.

The waterpark will have a sliding roof, which can be opened on sunny days.

In May, the park also revealed plans to open a £8m, 86-room luxury hotel and spa, which will feature a cinema, an indoor swimming pool and a restaurant.

Additional accommodation will be offered by the creation of 40 self-contained log cabins, each housing four to 10 people.

The development plans are part of the theme park’s biggest-ever expansion programme and will result in the Drayton Manor’s daily capacity being increased by around 3,000.

Colin Bryan, Drayton Manor’s managing director, said: “The project has taken seven years to reach this stage, during which we have been consumed with plans to develop the range of overnight facilities available for our visitors.”

“It’s a big investment for us and we are looking forward to the next phase in the history of Drayton Manor.”

Construction work on the hotel, which gained planning permission in 2004, will begin in 2006.

The 286-acre Drayton Manor attracts more than 1 million visitors each year. Details: www.draytonmanor.co.uk
