An application has been lodged to develop a AUS$110m waterpark on Australia’s Sunshine coast.
The 20-hectare Adventura Waterpark would be located opposite Sunshine Coast Turf Club on Caloundra Road.
The Wet & Wild-style park would include a range of water rides, wave and activity pools, adult swim zones and designated water play areas for children. There are also plans to offer short-term accommodation for around 50-80 visitors.
Damian Brown, a representative of Adventura, said: “Adventura Waterpark will provide a tourist destination that will benefit Sunshine Coast residents and the
whole South East Queensland region, it will be a world class ‘state of the art’ family focused
entertainment experience.
“At the moment there are two family attractions of a national standard on the Sunshine Coast – Australia
Zoo and Underwater World. Adventura Waterpark will make a third and is therefore a significant and
much needed addition to the regional tourism industry.”
Adventura’s developers hope to receive approval by mid-2008 and expect to draw 450,000 people to the park in its first year.
The scheme was first proposed more than three years ago and the recent application was submitted following 12 months’ of discussions with Caloundra City Council and the State Government. As part of the negotiations, plans to include 800 caravan and camping sites and further recreational facilities have been dropped.
