Six Flags' record breaking Goliath wooden coaster opens this week

Six Flags Great America in Illinois, US, is about to release another of the brand’s record-breaking rides, a new wooden roller coaster dubbed 'Goliath'.

The new ride will break several records, becoming the world’s tallest and steepest drop, while also becoming the fastest wooden roller coaster at 72mph (115kmph).

At its peak of 165ft (50.2m), and then will drop 180ft (54.8m) at a near vertical angle of 85 degrees.

The coaster also includes three intense over-banked turns, a 180-degree zero G-roll twist, two wild inversions, a winding inverted drop and a spiralling inverted zero G stall.

Goliath has been built by Idaho-based Rock Mountain construction Group and will open Thursday (19 June) following a delay from 31 May.
