‘Palmersaurus’ – a dinosaur-themed park – opened to the public on Saturday (14 December) within the grounds of the Palmer Coolum Resort in Queensland, Australia.

Clive Palmer, the Australian billionaire who is also behind plans to launch a replica of the Titanic, funded the project project which contains 160 dinosaur models, some animatronic, ranging from 2.5metres (8.2ft) to 22 metres (72.1ft) in length and up to 10 metres (32.8ft) high.

Speaking on the new attraction, Palmer said the park would serve as a constant reminder the importance of conservation.

“What we don't want to see is our world end up like the dinosaurs did,” said Palmer. “We've got to take better care of the environment and have a positive message for people.

“We've got to make sure we all learn from the lesson of the dinosaurs, we all learn that Australia can be a better place if we look after the environment.”

Australia Zoo owner Terri Irwin, who along with her children Bindi and Robert helped to officially open the park, praised the ambitious project and said it would bring wider tourism benefits for the Sunshine Coast.
