Museum of London to close its doors with festival and all-night openings

A wide range of family festivities are to be held on 26 and 27 November
The Museum of London in the UK capital is to hold two free weekend festivals and all-night openings ahead of the closure of its current home at London Wall in the City of London.

The museum is moving to its new home in Smithfield in the heart of the capital at the beginning of 2023.

Described as one of Europe's biggest cultural projects, the new £337m museum space has been designed by Stanton Williams, Asif Khan and Julian Harrap Architects.

Before it leaves its London Wall site, however, which it has occupied since its inception in 1976, the museum will hold a number of special events.

A wide range of family festivities are to be held on 26 and 27 November, in addition to a music festival taking place the following weekend – durig which people will be able to to visit overnight.

"We're celebrating London Wall's closure on 4 December 2022 after 45 years with two spectacular free weekend festivals – expect DJ sets, London’s biggest table football competition, immersive theatre, and late-night cinema," the museum said.

"Our first Greatest Weekend party on 26 – 27 November opens with a table football competition, where you can try your hand against our home team, represented by the Walking Football Association."

After leaving its current site, the museum is set to re-open in 2025.

As part of the move, the attraction will be renamed The London Museum.

The museum is moving to its new home in Smithfield in the heart of the capital at the beginning of 2023.

Described as one of Europe's biggest cultural projects, the new £337m museum space has been designed by Stanton Williams, Asif Khan and Julian Harrap Architects.
