Marriott’s Luxury Brands to open 30 hotels in 2017
POSTED 08 Dec 2016 . BY Jane Kitchen
The W Goa is set to open this month in India, and the brand has 33 hotels in the pipeline
On the heels of its announcement of a new Luxury Brands Group, hotel giant Marriott International has outlined some of the nearly 30 new luxury hotels set to debut in 2017 under the St. Regis, The Luxury Collection, W Hotels, The Ritz-Carlton, Ritz-Carlton Reserve, Bulgari Hotels & Resorts, Edition and JW Marriott brands.

Tina Edmundson, global brand officer for Marriott, said that luxury travel has been up nearly 50 per cent over the past five years, and she sees “a long runway for growth at the high-end,” with the company’s luxury traveler comfortable moving across the luxury portfolio for both business and leisure.

“Our guests’ approach to luxury is decidedly less formal, entirely more personal, and defined more by their interests and mind-set than their geography and demographic,” said Edmundson.

The Ritz-Carlton has four scheduled debuts in 2017, including The Ritz-Carlton, Langkawi in Malaysia and The Ritz-Carlton, Astana in Kazakhstan.

St. Regis has 38 hotels today, and 21 in the pipeline, and is slated to make debuts in five destinations in 2017, including Shanghai, Changsha and Cairo.

The W Goa is set to open this month in India, and the brand has 33 hotels in the pipeline. In 2017, W Hotels will open six properties, including locations in Tel Aviv, Panama City and Shanghai.

The Sanya Edition recently opened on Hainan Island in Southern China, marking the brand’s first hotel in Asia, and additional properties in Bangkok and Barcelona will open by the end of 2017.

The Luxury Collection, which currently includes 102 hotels in more than 30 countries, will see nine destinations open next year, including the much-anticipated Hotel Inglaterra in Havana, Cuba, which will join the brand after a complete renovation. Hotels in California’s Napa Valley, as well as Singapore and Panama City will also join the brand in 2017.

After the opening of the JW Marriott Venice and the JW Marriott Los Cabos, the brand will debut in Vietnam in 2017 with the JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort & Spa. Additionally, the JW Marriott parq Vancouver will open in Canada by the end of next year.
