Local firm wins contract for $975m Minnesota Vikings Stadium
POSTED 18 Feb 2013 . BY Aoife Dowling
A Minnesota-based construction firm has been selected to build a new $975m (£600m, 750m euro) Vikings stadium by the Minnesota Sports Facility Authority (MSFA).

Local contractor Mortenson Construction has built more than 100 sports and entertainment venues and expects the new Minnesota Vikings stadium to be open for the 2016 football season.

MSFA, which will own and operate the new stadium, chose Mortenson based on the company's national sports construction experience, local connections and competitive pricing.

Lester Bagley, Vikings vice president of public affairs and stadium development said: "This was a competitive, fair process that brought forward some of the most qualified construction firms in the country.

"Ultimately Mortenson's experience in building sports venues coupled with their familiarity with the market led to their selection."

Last year Texas architects HKS Sports & Entertainment Group won the $34m (25.5m euro, £22m) design contract for the stadium. The firm were selected on the back of their successful NFL stadiums in Dallas and Indianapolis as well as their green credentials and commitment to work with 11 per cent minority and 8 per cent women-owned firms for portions of the contract.
