TDIC: Abu Dhabi museum scheme 'on track'
POSTED 26 Oct 2011 . BY Pete Hayman
The construction of Abu Dhabi's own Guggenheim Museum in the United Arab Emirates remains "on track", despite its developer withdrawing one of the contracts for the scheme.

According to reports, a tender for concrete work at the attraction has been recalled by state-owned Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC).

In a statement, a TDIC spokesperson told Reuters that design work was continuing on the Frank Gehry-designed building, which will be located on Saadiyat Island.

The spokesperson said: "Due to a review of its project procurement strategy, TDIC has recalled the concrete works tender of the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi museum.

"This work, which forms a part of the multiple work contracts that make up the project, will be re-tendered at a later date."

In addition to the planned Guggenheim attraction, Saadiyat Island is also set to incorporate a Louvre attraction and a 250-seat theatre as part of a major development led by TDIC.

TDIC has also confirmed that the UAE Pavilion, which hosted the national exhibition at the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai, China, is nearing completion on Saadiyat Island.

When complete, the Foster + Partners-designed venue will be located adjacent to Manarat Al Saadiyat and will be used as a landmark exhibition and events venue.
