Asterix attraction to enter UK
POSTED 14 Oct 2011 . BY Tom Walker
A traveling visitor attraction based on the popular cartoon character Astérix the Gaul will be launched in the UK next year as part of a Europe-wide tour.

The attraction is being developed and operated by SEE Touring Attractions, which in the past have produced similar temporary, themed attractions around TV series Star Trek and the doomed cruise liner RMS Titanic.

The Astérix Tour, which will launch in September 2012, will visit major cities throughout Europe over five years, including Germany, France, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK.

It will include an immersive exhibition, allowing visitors will enter the incredible world of Astérix and his loyal companions Obélix and Dogmatix on a two-hour journey exploring new countries and cultures.

Moments and characters from all 34 Astérix books - written by René Goscinny and illustrated by Albert Uderzo - will be recreated within interactive activities, which will combine technology, physical challenges and face-to-face fun with the characters from 50 B.C. Gaul.

SEE Touring Attractions CEO Martin Biallas said: "It's going to be different from anything Astérix fans have ever experienced - an immersive, entertaining odyssey that will match the Gaul's energy and humour."

He added that more information in the coming months, including tour dates and ticket sales.

SEE is working together with les Editions Albert René (LEAR) on the project. LEAR was set up in 1979 by Astérix co-creator Albert Uderzo and owns all the rights to the Astérix brand and character.

The company manages the international rights of the Asterix universe by granting licenses for tie-in products and for promotional purposes, including those for the leisure park Parc ASTERIX near Paris.
