Cliffs of Moher feature new visitor centre
POSTED 31 Jan 2007 . BY Helen Patenall
The 31.5m euro (£20.8m) Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience in County Clare, Ireland, will open on 8 February.

The visitor attraction comprises an underground visitor centre – built into the side of a cliff and covered with grass to minimise its visual impact – featuring a restaurant, café and shop.

An art interpretation centre called Atlantic Edge contains exhibits and displays on the Cliffs of Moher.

In addition, the expanded and improved South Cliff edge now features more than 250 metres of new pathways for enhanced visitor access.

Project leader Gerard Dollard said: “As it is not feasible to patrol the 8 kilometres (5 miles) of cliffs, the local authority has put in place significant safety management measures along designated official pathways, including new viewing platforms set back from the cliff edge to allow panoramic views over the Atlantic, reinstatement of banks to provide a low-level physical obstruction at the cliff edge, pictorial signage throughout the development to overcome language barriers and the employment of rangers to patrol the area.”

Cork-based Reddy O’Riordan Staehli Architects designed the development. Details: www.cliffsofmoher.ie
