The Snowdonia National Park Authority and the Snowdonia Society have announced plans to build a new £9m visitor centre at Mount Snowdon’s 1,085m summit - which attracts 350,000 climbers and walkers annually.
The Snowdon Summit Building, which has been designed by London-based Furneaux Stewart Design and Communication – will replace the existing 70-year-old structure and have a greater focus on the history, environment and culture of the mountain.
The project has already raised £7m in funding – including grants from the Welsh Assembly Government, Snowdon Mountain Railway and the Objective 1 European Fund – and hopes to reach its £9m target by the end of September, so that work can begin in preparation for a planned opening in summer 2008.
