Cedar Point unveils waterpark plans
POSTED 26 Nov 2003 . BY
Cedar Point amusement park and resort has unveiled details of its planned $22m Castaway Bay indoor waterpark complex.

Scheduled to open in November 2004, the 51,000sq ft complex will be a major expansion of the existing Radisson Harbour Inn located at the entrance to the Cedar Point Causeway.

Central to the development is the 38,000sq ft indoor waterpark, a five-storey structure designed in a Caribbean style and featuring palm trees, huts, lagoons and aqua activities for all ages, as well as a day spa, whirlpool spas, fitness suite, arcade, restaurants and function space.

Castaway Bay’s waterpark will only be available to overnight guests of the hotel, and will be the amusement parks’ first all year round attraction.

One of the highlights will be a 35ft high, 520ft long water roller coaster which will propel riders uphill on water jets, including shooting them outside the building in an enclosed slide and then back into the waterpark.

There will also be 12 further water slides, a 100,000-gallon wave pool producing 3ft high waves, a children’s play pool, an 80,000-gallon activity pool, a multi-storey interactive play area and two 50-person whirlpool spas – one indoors and one outdoors.

Architects for the project are R2 Architects Guild of Pittsburgh with aquatic designers Water Technology and Neuman Pools. Details: www.cedarpoint.com
