Major expansion in the works for Fun Spot America as Falcon's Creative unveils 10-year masterplan

Fun Spot America has set out a 10-year masterplan for a major expansion of its theme park in Orlando, Florida.

Falcon’s Creative Group are behind the long-term development, which will include six new themes based on ‘Americana’ across different time periods up to the modern day. In addition to new themes, the park is set to gain new food and beverage partners, rollercoasters and water rides.

“The new master plan will give guests a chance to step into different eras and experiences all under one ultimate storyline,” said Brandi Monard, designer at Falcon’s Creative. “We are very excited to see Fun Spot grow in the coming years and make an impact in the Orlando theme park community."

The first phase of development will include new water features set for Q2 2017. The location will be near Gator Spot – the 15,000sq ft (1,400sq m) animal attraction featuring birds, snakes and alligators, which opened in 2015.

Further additions, including new thrill rides and rollercoasters, will be implemented as part of the decade-long masterplan. A gondola ride will connect the current park with the proposed addition, which is separated by a public road.

Fun Spot’s most recent addition – which came at a cost of US$20m (€18.4m, £13.9m) – was completed in 2013 and included its White Lightning wooden rollercoaster and Freedom Flyer steel suspended inverted coaster. Following a test of virtual reality on Freedom Flyer during IAAPA in November, there have been rumours the park is considering making VR a permanent addition to the ride. Costs for the new development have not been revealed.
